YouTube is set to livesteam a fundraiser, ‘Bear Witness, Take Action’ on June 13th to raise $100 million for their Black creators.
It is set to be hosted by Common and Keke Palmer, with YouTube creators such as Jemele Hill, Soledad O’Brien, Patrisse Cullors, Roxane Gay, Prince EA, Baratunde Thuston, and more.
YouTube CEO, Susan Wojcicki, announced that they are “dedicated” to dismantling “systematic racism” in order to help in “amplifying and developing the voices of Black creators and artists in their stories.” Furthermore, they plan on looking into how the platform can work for everyone, “but specifically for the Black community.”
The video-watching platform has promised $1 million in donations to the Equal Justice Initiative and is planning to ask viewers to donate as well.
