‘The Right Stuff’ that followed the astronauts of the Mercury 7 trip has been canceled at Disney Plus but not all hope is lost quite yet. The series is a product of NatGeo and their adaptation of the 1979 nonfiction book by Tom Wolfe. There is speculation that the cancellation wasn’t due to the show’s performance but that it didn’t fit the NatGeo image and the direction that they want to go in in the future. This is why there could still be hope, Warner Bros is still shopping the series around.
The series follows Major John Glenn played by Patrick J. Adams and Lieutenant Commander Alan Shephard played by Jake McDorman. The 8-episode series premiered last fall and has been described as an “aspirational story about exploration, ambition, determination and resilience and reminds us that human beings can achieve the extraordinary when united by a common purpose.” Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson are executive producers on the project.
