The ‘Queen’s Gambit’ has been such a success that the theatrical rights have been acquired by production company Level Forward. The company has also produced musicals ‘Oklahoma’ and ‘What the Constitution Means to Me’. The Netflix series followed the life of chess champion Beth Harmon (played by Anne Taylor-Joy) as she found her way as an orphan in an extremely male industry. It also shows her struggled with an addiction that was simultaneously intertwined with her talent and success.
Level Forward CEO Adrienne Becker and producer Julia Dunetz had this to say about the new project, “It is a privilege for Level Forward to lead the charge of bringing The Queen’s Gambit to the stage through the beloved and enduring craft of musical theater.” They then shared their thoughts on the series and story itself, “Told through a brave and fresh point of view, audiences are already sharing in the friendship and fortitude of the story’s inspiring women who energize and sustain Beth Harmon’s journey and ultimate triumph. The story is a siren call amidst our contemporary struggles for gender and racial equity, and we’re looking forward to moving the project forward.”
