Fox’s ‘Family Guy’ is Recasting the Character of Cleveland

‘Family Guy’ is recasting the character of Cleveland for their 19th season. Mike Henry has been the voice of Cleveland for the past 19 seasons. Just this June he decided to step down from the role saying, “It’s been an honor to play Cleveland on Family Guy for 20 years,” and “I love this character, but persons of color should play characters of color. Therefore, I will be stepping down from the role.” Henry will stay working on the show as a writer and voice actor for other characters.

‘Family Guy’ has just announced the new voice of Cleveland, Arif Zahir. Zahir is a youtuber who makes videos of him doing impressions of political figures and animated characters, with his most popular obviously being Cleveland. Zahir said this about his new role, “When I learned I would get to take over the role? Overabundant gratitude. To Mike, you created something truly special and I promise I will do my absolute best to honor your legacy. To Rich Appel, Alec Sulkin and Seth MacFarlane, thank you for this incredible gift. And to the millions of fans who love this show, I promise not to let you down.”
