ABC Creating ‘Women of the Movement’ A Limited Series About Civil Rights

This series will follow the story of Emmet Till, who was a Black 14-year-old boy lynched in 1955. His death was a catalyst for the Civil Rights Movement in the time of Jim Crow Laws. The news of the series came on the 65th anniversary of Till’s death. The creator of the series, Marrisa Jo Cerar having this to say about the series, “this is more than a tragedy; it’s a story about a mother’s unwavering love of her son and her commitment to bettering the lives of Black people”. 

The six-part series has notable executive producers such as Jay-Z and Will Smith. The series has been in the works for a year and will be airing sometime in 2021. Gina Prince-Bythewood, who will be directing the first episode of the series, said, “I am grateful to be on this journey with incredible collaborators who are determined to honor this mother and son with truth, authenticity, and humanity”.
