Amazon cancels the drama series ‘Utopia’ produced by Gillian Flynn. ‘Utopia’ is about fans of a pandemic based comic book series that becomes their reality. From there it’s up to them to save the planet from the disease. The cast included Rainn Wilson, Sasha Lane, Ashleigh LaThrop, Desmin Borges, Farrah Mackenzie and Christopher Denham. While Amazon doesn’t release their viewership data so we don’t know how many watched it, but critics of Rotten Tomatoes gave it a 51%. The timing of the release of the series may have also unsettled some, with one critic (Inkoo Kang) saying, “Too hackneyed to be timely, too grim to be escapist.”
‘Utopia’’s cancellation comes just after the end of their first season. While their run was short, the path to get to the streamer was around six years. This news also comes shortly after Amazon announced they were renewing ‘The Expanse’ for a sixth season.
