On Tuesday, Netflix announced that five new Japanese animated series will be added to the streaming service. This is as Japanese anime has become very profitable for the service. Netflix saw 50% growth of households (100 million households) watching at least one Japanese anime series. This adds to Netflix’s other 11 original Japanese anime series.
Netflix’s chief producer of anime, Taiki Sakurai said this about the growth of anime, “We are excited now more than ever to challenge ourselves to expand our aspirational anime programming for fans around the world.” He went on to say “In just four short years since launching our creative team in Tokyo, Netflix has expanded the reach and overall audience of anime — a category conventionally seen as niche,”.
