NBC and Ava DuVernay are teaming up to create a Native American drama. The project is titled ‘Sovereign’. The project is titled ‘Sovereign’. Sydney Freeland who is a writer and executive on the project is a part of the Navajo Nation and was raised on the New Mexico Mescalero Apache Reservation.

The series will follow an Indigenous family struggling with knowing and controlling what their future will look like. It also show the family struggling to know the right way to protect their tribe from not only outside forces, but themselves too.
