HBO Max has handed out a straight-to-series order to Our Flag Means Death, a period comedy loosely based on the adventures of Stede Bonnet, a pampered aristocrat who abandoned his life of privilege to become a pirate.

“An episode count for the period comedy has not yet been determined. In addition to helming the pilot, Waititi will exec produce the series alongside Jenkins (TBS’ People of Earth) and Garrett Basch (FX’s What We Do in the Shadows) and Dan Halsted.”
