Days before Pride Month, Disney+ has begun streaming its first Pixar short titled ‘Out’ with a gay character as its lead.

Having debuted on May 22nd, the short focuses on a gay couple – a difference from what has been seen in other Disney films where the LGBTQ+ character is often a minor detail that tends to show up for five seconds. It features the main character, Greg, moving with his boyfriend, Manuel. It depicts the struggle of coming out to one’s parents, as well as how he receives “help from his precocious pup.”

The short film is 9 minutes and is one of the seven films in the SparkShorts program. Pixar president says that the program is “an opportunity to unlock the potential of individual artists.”
