Although initially set for an early summer premiere, the documentary series has been moved to run from April 19th to May 17th.
‘The Last Dance’ is set to be a ten-part documentary series, centered around basketball great Michael Jordan. Because live sports have been canceled and audiences are anticipating new, sports-related TV, Netflix and ESPN have set the premiere date to several months sooner. The series will utilize over 500 hours of footage from the Bulls’ championship run in 1997-1998.
“As society navigates this time without live sports, viewers are still looking to the sports world to escape and enjoy a collective experience. We’ve heard the calls from fans asking us to move up the release date for this series, and we’re happy to announce that we’ve been able to accelerate the production schedule to do just that,” ESPN said in a prepared statement.
‘The Last Dance’ is produced by Mandalay Sports Media in association with NBA Entertainment and Jump23, directed by Jason Hehir, and produced by Mike Tollin. It will premiere on Netflix on April 19th.
