Amazon’s newest book-to-screen adaptation will be pulled off by two of the most successful women in the film and television industry.
‘Dawn’ will be based off of Octavia E. Butler’s 1987 dystopian novel of the same name. It tells the story of an African-American woman working with aliens on her mission to revive the human race. Mahoney, best known for being the first woman and first African American to direct a Star Wars feature, will be writing the script and directing the pilot. DuVernay will be executive producing the series.
The show will also be executive produced by Mahoney, Allen Bain, Gary Pearl, and Thomas L. Carter. Marta Fernandez, president of MACRO TV Studios, will be overseeing the project. ‘Dawn’ is currently in development and is undergoing a script-to-series commitment.
