NBC Reveals New Information on Upcoming Streaming Service “Peacock”

By Ryan Flaherty

NBC has revealed not only a name for their service, labeled off of their logo, but also multiple reboots and shows coming exclusively to the service.

Starting Information

Peacock will launch in April of 2020 and will be ad-supported, but a price has not yet been determined.

Show Availability

The network has boasted that they’ll have 15,000 hours of content including old favorites and new releases.

Peacock will be the exclusive home of ‘The Office’ and ‘Parks and Recreation’, with a multitude of other NBC originals that will be eventually exclusive. ‘30 Rock’, ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’, ‘Downtown Abbey’, ‘Keeping Up with the Kardashians’, ‘Psych’, ‘SNL’ and more will all be available.

Films will be available as well, ranging from ‘Mamma Mia’ to the Bourne franchise.

New Releases

Mr. Robot  creator Sam Esmail will redevelop ‘Battlestar Galactica’, but he wants to clarify that it will not be a reboot. In a tweet addressing his new series, Esmail said “BSG fans, this will NOT be a remake of the amazing series @RonDMoore launched because… why mess with perfection? Instead, we’ll explore a new story within the mythology while staying true to the spirit of Battlestar…”

Esmail is also developing ‘Angelyne’, a limited series starring Shameless alum Emmy Rossum. The show follows the career of Renee Goldberg and is based off a Hollywood Reporter expose on the pop culture icon. Rossum says that she remembers Goldberg’s billboards from when she was a kid. “From the moment I read Gary’s recent piece, I knew I had to tell this story. It’s a poignant and bizarre tale about the hunger for fame, the sexualization of women and the erasing of past traumas,” says Rossum.

Alec Baldwin, Jamie Dornan, and Christian Slater are all set to star in original drama series ‘Dr. Death’. The series follows the true story of Dr. Christopher Duntsch, whose patients mysteriously ended up dying in great numbers. Two surgeons and a District Attorney, realizing the malpractice, team up to stop him.

A ‘Brave New World’ series based off of the original book was set earlier this year at USA network, but is now moving to the slate of NBC content. Demi Moore will star with Kylie Bunbury, Hannah John-Kamen, Sen Mitsuji, Joseph Morgan and Nina Sosanya.

‘Great News’ creator Tracey Wigfield is developing a modern take on ‘Saved By the Bell’ with a sequel of the original show. Mario Lopez and Elizabeth Berkley are both set to return, with other cast-members currently in talks to appear. The show explores California Governor Zach Morris deciding to send low-income students to Bayside High- creating a culture clash. Lopez and Berkeley reportedly play their original characters as parents.

Major NBC creative talent Michael Schur (who’s worked on the ‘Good Place’, ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’, and ‘Parks and Recreation’) is working on ‘Rutherford Falls’ with Ed Helms in place to star and produce. Helms plays Nathan Rutherford, who struggles to change his routine in his small New England town.

‘Parks and Recreation’ actress Rashida Jones is developing a pilot called ‘Straight Talk’ with Jada Pinkett Smith set to star.

Original ‘Punky Brewster’ star Soleil Moon Frye is attached to a follow-up series to star once again, as well as serve as executive prodcuer. The show is reported to follow Punky, a mother of three, who meets a young girl that reminds her of herself.

‘AP Bio’ will be continued at the service following its cancellation at the network. After two seasons on the broadcast network, the show will move exclusively to Peacock.

A second movie for hit series ‘Psych’ has been ordered, and will follow the christmas film they completed in 2017. It’s been titled ‘Psych 2: Lassie Comes Home’ and is slated for release in Spring 2020. The full series cast will return to Santa Barbara for the TV movie.

In unscripted content, Lorne Michaels will produce a documentary series called ‘Who Wrote That’.
