‘SNL’ Has Added Three New Players To Its Cast

By Ryan Flaherty

Chloe Fineman, Shane Gillis, and Bowen Yang have all been announced to join the cast- but soon after reports surfaced that Gillis has a past of using racial slurs.

The New York Times reported that in past standup routines, Gillis mocked Chinese accents, used a slur, and made multiple off color comments. In reference to a boy learning English, Gillis said “We had to move tables, it was so annoying. That’s more annoying than any other minority playing music at a restaurant loud on their phone.”

In response to these reports, Gillis came out with a statement on twitter (shown below).

Bowen Yang, on the other hand, is the first full-time East Asian cast member. Yang is a Chinese American, and the son of immigrants.

SNL returns on September 28 with guest host Woody Harrelson. A full list of announced hosts is available here.
