A dispute between Disney and Sony resulted in a Sony pushing out Disney from the creative process. Marvel President Kevin Feige will no longer be attached to the Spiderman films.
Although two more films are supposedly planned, it hasn’t been confirmed that lead actor Tom Holland and director Jon Watts will return.
Reports state that the dispute centered around a money disparity, and when Disney offered a 50/50 split of film profit, Sony turned down the offer. The two parties continued to negotiate until Sony decided to pull the plug. While Disney has a multitude of booming films, Spiderman is Sony’s most viable franchise.
After a record breaking year for profit and a new streaming service on the way, this is one of the first major setbacks in a year that Disney has largely thrived in.
