In addition to cancelling the Superman prequel ‘Krypton’, the network will also not move forward with the ordered spinoff ‘Lobo’. The ‘Krypton’ season 2 finale will now serve as the series finale.
The sudden shift in programming may be explained by the upcoming service HBO Max, which would be a larger platform for the DC Universe to live. ‘Krypton’ and ‘The Expanse’ were two of Syfy’s most watched series, but after viewings took a hit the shows were too expensive to be kept running. After the cancellation of the Expanse, however, Amazon Prime rescued the series- the same future for Krypton is very likely.
