The streamer has ordered 11 episodes of the series with executive producer Neil Gaiman.

Vice President of Original Series at Netflix Channing Dungey says they’re “thrilled to partner with the brilliant team that is Neil Gaiman, David S. Goyer and Allan Heinberg to finally bring Neil’s iconic comic book series, The Sandman, to life onscreen.” Sources indicate that this is one of the most expensive DC shows in its history due to Netflix’s large deal with Warner Brothers.

The project was originally intended to be a movie starring Joseph Gordon Levitt, but it was eventually scrapped.
